Autism
Autism developmental disorder is difficult to describe. Autism can be expressed in different ways and in different forms. For example, we know ASD, classic autism, asperger and PDD-NOS. The most common characteristics of autism are: limitations in interaction, communication disorders, repeating invariable patterns of behavior and daily activities, more sensitive to certain stimuli and problems with information processing.
Some people with autism also have an intellectual disability, but people with a high IQ can also have autism. Autism can therefore be expressed differently per person, it refers to a diverse group of people whose problems differ in severity and type, with all possible types and combinations of limitations and qualities.
Everything that people with autism see, hear, smell, feel and taste is processed in the brain in a different way. This makes it very difficult for autists to live "normal" life. Autism can also cause additional psychological problems.
Of course, people with autism also have many positive points. They often have an eye for detail, are honest and are hardworking. People with autism are born with this. It will therefore play a role in daily life for life.
Autism cannot be seen from the outside, but has a major impact on a person's life and on the life of the family or other family members, friends, acquaintances, etc. There is no special treatment or medicine to cure autism. Moreover, with the right guidance and tools, it is certainly possible to live independently. For example, a structured daily life is very important. Use our Time Timers or tools with icons to make this run as smoothly as possible.
In our webshop you will find all kinds of products under the chapter sensory integration and movement that can help with self-regulation. For example, one can opt for weighting products such as a weight blanket, weighted pad or weight vest (or other weighting product) as an aid for overstimulation. Earmuffs or earplugs for more and better dosing of stimuli. For a better insight into daily activities, we also offer all kinds of tools such as a talking wall sign, talking wall map or a pictogram sign.
