A large A4 format picture book without letters! The book has 100 large photographs of nature, animals and products. The picture book is specially designed for people who cannot read. This can be due to advanced dementia or autism or some other limitation. Through images of animals, planes, mills and much more, a conversation can start... from pictures to chats!
The book was designed by Kristel van Klaveren, a graphic designer who mainly designs maps and planners and, in addition to her own company, works a number of hours a week as an activity supervisor in a nursing home. She found that there are few or no products for people with advanced dementia. Residents often got a book in front of them with photos and texts to look at. This literally confronts these patients with their lack of capability they letters look familiar but don't make sense anymore. It was time for a book without letters, a book to look into and stimulate conversations with. It's kind of hard to have a conversation with your grandmother who has Alzheimer's. By looking at the pictures together, conversations automatically start. About pets, holidays, work and much more.
This book is also very suitable for people with autism or an intellectual disability because of which they are unable to read for themselves. The book invites conversations, the pictures start talking about cars, pets, food, holidays and much more. So this book contains no text, no word, only images. It is 100 pages, with photos of animals, nature, products and places in the world.
